The story behind the concept of Bellywood

by Adriana (written in October 2006)

Having achieved the goals I set out with in 1992 when I established Adriana's Belly Dance Arts Centre in Hobart, as 2007 approaches,  it is now time for new goals, this time to also achieve financial success while continuing to pass on the many benefits this  wonderful dance form brings to so many beautiful women.

As I was looking to simplify my business name, my first steps to the future are registering the name of BELLYWOOD & setting up this website. Belly Dance is for everyone regardless of their size, shape or age & I wanted a simple logo that symbolised this, hence the one sided silhouette that was chosen.

More steps will follow as I continue to learn more steps of the dance I love & of life.

Basically Bellywood is a dream about a place.

After many discussions with friends as well as many hours of soul searching, I decided if the dream were to become reality it was time to put a few aspects in motion. I have been told that for dreams to become true you must be very specific about stating your wishes to the universe. (You will know who you are when you read this LOL) This is why I have also mentioned financial success & why I will probably continue to add to & change the following ....

The name came up in class one night when I was talking about the centre I would like to set up should I ever win lotto or similar. (Thanks Sara) All the students present could picture themselves in such a place so I believe it is not only my dream but something from which many would benefit.

I can picture owning a building devoted to belly dancing with a large studio space also suited to hosting functions such as concerts, haflas, workshops, etc. There would also be one or two smaller studios where classes could run simultaneously. The building would have a restaurant which of course would encourage (& pay) regular dancers. We would have a spa & relaxation area to chill out in after class & of course, somewhere to sip a wine or cuppa. An area would be devoted to costume supplies. I can also picture offering massage, Pilates & similar holistic services, along with a  resource library room where students could view archival videos, etc.

Of course the studios would all have sprung floors, (ideally with patterns & arabesques incorporated in the design to aid in teaching floor patterns), air-conditioning, heating, mirrors, fabulous sound system,  & while I'm dreaming, lets have lovely big windows too for fresh air to flow through. Emma has an addition to the dream- automatic doors that she can see herself running through without having to put her dance bag down - hadn't thought of them! Would certainly make life easier - as would ground level - no more stairs to cart everything back & forth!

The centre would actually pay for itself & allow suitable people to run their own business supporting belly dance in a fabulous exotic environment full of plush cushions & sensuous fabrics! The ultimate experience for women. THE place to go to shimmy & much more ...

So there you have it - Bellywood - the dream -

the place to shimmy .......

Everybody needs a dream ........ you are welcome to share mine ......... maybe together we can make it reality  - "Insh'allah!"

Dare to dream!

FOUND THE PERFECT BUILDING! Dreaming about $700,000 + now! (Feb 2008)

While trying to find the Arabic word for "dream" I came across this website http://humanityquest.com/themes/inspiration/Languages/Arabic/Ilham.asp which refers to "Ilham" being a particular subconscious state suddenly overwhelming the heart and the mind at the same time. It seems to fit!

I also found the word "Helaim" as a girl's name meaning dream. Difference may be in the English spelling?
